Borneo Cultures Museum opening in March

Updated at 13.35PM, 15 Feb 2022: The museum has denied that it will be opened on 4 March 2022, but retained it will be opened in March through a social media posting as you can see below.  The museum said the date will be announced soon and added “p/s: Not 4 March” in the posting.  The title of this post therefore has been updated to reflect this change.

The largest museum in Malaysia and second largest museum in Southeast Asia after the Singapore National Museum, the Borneo Cultures Museum, will be opening very soon.

According to a news report, as well as social media postings, the world class museum will open this 4 March. (This has been denied by the museum – See update above).

The opening will be made by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

According to a news report by New Sarawak Tribune, the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hazmah had confirmed the date on Sunday.

In addition to the confirmation, the Borneo Cultures Museum also shared a unique post in a form of the dictionary which noted the opening month as well.

It says “March – the third month of the year, in the northern hemisphere usually considered the first month of spring.

“… The museum will open in March,” as you can see below.

Located in the heart of Kuching City, the museum has been attracting a lot of attention lately as it shared ‘teasers’ of what it has kept indoors.

The museum was built at a cost of RM308 million in 2015 and completed in 2019.

More information on the museum can be read at the Borneo Cultures Museum page.
