Borneo Astronomy Centre to cost RM107 million

The much hyped Borneo Astronomy Centre (BAC) will be built in Damai, confirming that it will be within the Pantai Damai constituency.

According to a report by Borneo Post, the Islamic Astronomy centre will be called Borneo Astronomy Centre instead of Kuching Astronomy Centre, and it will cost RM107 million to build.

The same report said that the proposal to build the centre was made by Sarawak Mufti, Datu Kipli Yassin.

Meanwhile, the location of the centre was announced by Deputy Minister of Utilities Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, who is also in charge of Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) and Islamic Affairs.

It is also noted that the astronomy centre will be built in Damai, at the foot of Mount Santubong.

Currently, the centre is in its planning stage, and construction expected only in two or three years.

That said, we should not be able to see any physical structures of the centre until then.
