‘Batu 8 Army Camp Kuching junction’ to get flyover by 2027

The Sarawak government has confirmed that a new flyover (also called interchange) will be built at Mile 8 (Batu 8) Jalan Kuching – Serian.

According to an article by Borneo Post, the project will start by the end of this year, with completion expected in three years (2027).

The article quoted Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi as saying that the cost of the project is expected to be RM400 million with preliminary works expected to be done by the end of this year.

He also noted that Mile 8 of the Kuching-Serian road was not in the Pan Borneo Highway project, but it is now experiencing severe congestion.

In addition to Mile 8 (Batu 8) Kuching Serian road, the government is also looking at improving traffic in ‘redline areas’  which are existing original routes built before the construction of the Pan Borneo Highway and needs to be upgraded to meet the standards of the mega project.

Nanta was quoted as saying that his ministry has identified 136 kilometres of redlines which will be upgraded in the future.

The Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak is the biggest infrastructure project in Sarawak with the project now close to full completion.

The project is expected to be fully completed in 2026.
