Kuching Bus Service: Details, schedule and fares

Public transportation, particularly Kuching public bus service, have never been a strong point in Kuching.

However, there has been efforts to ramp up better public bus service as Kuching gears towards the introduction of the Kuching Autonomous Rapid Transit System which is currently under construction.

Getting around Kuching

This has led to the bus services being re-organized to feature three main service providers which now offer not only better busses, but also increased bus routes and facilities.

This article therefore details all three main public bus services which are available in Kuching.

Kuching Metro Electric Bus Service

Known as Kuching Metro and also Kuching e-bus, the Kuching Metro bus service has the smallest fleet among the three public bus operators with just two busses. It started operations in 2019, and is entirely free for use.

These busses ply Route 103 which begins from the Kuching Open Air Market and ends at the Semenggoh Orang Utan Centre and vice versa.

Route 103 covers major tourist destinations listed below.

It also covers major shopping malls and areas listed below.

  • Sekama Commercial Centre (Sekama)
  • Mendu Commercial Centre
  • Panovel Commercial Centre
  • The Spring Mall
  • King Centre
  • VivaCity Megamall
  • Tabuan Jaya Commercial Centre
  • MBKS Stutong Market
  • Setia Commercial Centre
  • CityOne Megamall
  • 101 Commercial Centre

The Kuching Metro Bus Service also stops at residential areas, government building, universities, and schools as listed below.

The bus starts at 6.00AM daily with the final trip listed is at 4.30PM. It is important to note that only two of the schedule trips will bring you into the Semenggoh Orangutan centre to see the Orangutans. The complete Kuching Metro Electric Bus schedule can be seen below.

Kuching Hydrogen bus service

The Kuching Hydrogen bus service, also known as Kuching H2 Bus is the second bus service in Kuching. The service was also launched in 2019 and it has been on-going until today despite being labeled as a ‘trail run’.

Due to this, the bus service is also available for free.

In addition, it is understood that these busses will be the future of Kuching public bus services particularly when the ART under Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) is completed.

There are currently three Kuching Hydrogen busses on service to date with the busses covering two routes; The Downtown Heritage route, and the Damai route.

Kuching Bas.my Stage Bus Service

The biggest fleet of busses in Kuching is owned by Bas.my which operates the BAS.MY Kuching Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) programme. The bus service started on March 2025 and are coloured in bright pink making them hard to miss.

Unlike Kuching Metro Electric bus services and Kuching Hydrogen bus services, you need to pay to use Bas.my busses although senior citizens, students and the disabled are allowed to ride the bus for free.

There is also a special pass for those wanting to save, known as My50.

Currently, Bus.my Kuching covers the following routes.

  • Q10: Kuching – Serian – Kuching
  • Q03M: Saujana – King Centre – Saujana
  • Q08M: Saujana – Bau – Saujana
