2.43KM Batang Lassa bridge gets electricity, soon to be open for use
The second longest bridge in Sarawak, the Batang Lassa Bridge has now obtained electricity from Sarawak Energy, allowing it to be declared open soon.
The bridge however would hold the title as the longest bridge in Sarawak until the up-coming Batang Sadong bridge is completed.
With a length of 2.43KM, the Batang Lassa bridge was supposed to be open in December 2024, but its opening had to be delayed due to electricity connectivity which was just only sorted out recently.
The cause of the delayed opening was reported by TVS which quoted Daro State Assemblymen (ADUN), Safiee Ahmad for the reason.
Regardless, the brigde which cost RM600 million is now fully completed after almost 5 years being under construction.
Once declared open for use, the bridge will connect Pulau Bruit and Daro in Mukah.
The bridge started construction in 2019 and is one of the 11 bridges built with a total cost of RM4 billion under the Sarawak Second Trunk Road/Coastal Highway project.
Other bridges built under the project are the Batang Saribas Bridge in Betong and Sungai Krian Bridge in Betong, The Batang Paloh bridge and Batang Igan in Mukah, the Batang Rambungan and Sarawak River bridge in Kuching, the Batang Bintulu bridge in Bintulu, the Batang Rajang bridge in Sibu and the Batang Lupar bridge in Betong/Samarahan.
Despite its massive cost, the Sarawak government has promised that the Batang Lassa Bridge, alongside all other bridges in Sarawak, would be toll free.
