1,500 solar-powered lights to be installed in Jepak, Bintulu

A total of 1,500 solar-powered lights will be installed throughout the Jepak constituency in Bintulu, aiming to improve lighting in main roads, pedestrian pathways, and villages.

Sarawak Tribune reported that Jepak assemblyman Iskandar Turkee announced the project, stating it as a commitment by the Sarawak government and local authorities to enhance residents’ well-being, both in urban and rural areas.

He also stated that this initiative supports Sarawak’s green development agenda by contributing to residents’ safety and comfort.

The collaboration between the Public Works Department (PWD), Bintulu Development Authority (BDA), and the Jepak Service Centre will ensure the efficient implementation of the project.

Iskandar was also quoted by the paper as saying that priority will be given to unlit areas such as village roads, public gathering spots, and recreational sites to further enhance residents’ safety.

The Jepak solar lights project is slated to begin in the first quarter of 2025, with the initial phase targeting critical areas.

The cost for the project was not mentioned in the report.
