Wisma Melayu Sarawak: All you need to know

Wisma Melayu Sarawak is the headquarters of Amanah Khairat Yayasan Budaya Melayu Sarawak (AKYBMS).

The idea of the building was mooted by the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem during a seminar in 2007, and the earth-breaking ceremony was held on Dec 10, 2020.  It cost RM73 million to build with the fist phase costing RM50 million.

On 11 October 2022, the handover of the project site to the contractor began with construction expected to be completed in 30 months (mid-2024).

What to expect

Wisma Melayu features facilities such as a multipurpose hall which can house 2,00 people, three seminar rooms and meeting rooms and open spaces to hold various activities as well as a cultural gallery.

The site will also have a surau which can accommodate 1,000 people, basement carparks for 290 vehicles and a recreational park.

The main building was designed based on the Tengkolok concept — a Malay fabric headgear worn in the olden times.

Since the building is not yet ready, artist impression would show what you can expect from the building.
