Universiti Malaya considering Sarawak for its Law Faculty
University said to be keen on learning about NCR and MA63
Malaysia’s oldest university, Universiti Malaya (UM), was reported to be considering Sarawak for its off-campus law faculty.
The location being considered for such campus was not mentioned in the news report by The Borneo Post and DayakDaily.
According to the news reports, the intentions of Universiti Malaya was revealed by Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
The news report said that the Premier was contacted directly by the university recently.
If Universiti Malaya decides to go ahead with the consideration, the faculty will likely include elective subjects such as the Native Customary Rights (NCR) land, Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report, Cobbold Commission Report and traditional law as part of its curriculum.
Currently, both NCR and MA63 programmes are already in the curriculum at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus.
Shall Universiti Malaya go ahead with the off-campus faculty in Sarawak, it will be the fourth public university in Sarawak after Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Universtiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) dan Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
