Tok Nan mural gets new home

If you remember, a mural of the late Tok Nan, drawn by Amey Sheikh Ali and Nor Shaddiq Mohamad Hamsah in 2017 was erased by the Kuching North City Council (DBKU) sometime in 2017.

DBKU then stated that the mural’s location was not proper and a new site would be identified to host the mural.

Years past, and finally, this year, 2020, the mural has found a new spot.

In a Facebook post, artist Amey Sheikh Ali gave thanks to a list of people who helped him complete the mural while showing off his artwork featuring the late Sarawak Chief Minsiter.

It is not known when the mural was finished.

Amey didn’t mention the exact location of the mural, but said that ‘it is behind AmBank Satok, and it would be visible if you went to buy waffles at Wisma Hopoh.’

Previously, Amey and his friend Shaddiq drew a mural of the late Tok Nan, whom had passed away, under the Satok flyover.

Despite gaining massive praise and coverage, the mural was erased by DBKU, who also promised it will ‘relocate’ the mural to a more ‘respectable location’.

It is good to see that the mural of Tok Nan finally getting its promised ‘relocation’ although I would had probably preferred it to be located in a more ‘strategic and visible’ location in town instead of ‘behind Ambank Satok’.

Anyway, it’s a very nice mural by Amey!
