Satok Sunday market to move in August
The government has plans to turn the newly completed Medan Niaga Satok into a tourism spot where visitors can buy local food and products. Traders at the old Satok Sunday market will therefore be relocated to the new Sunday market with the help of Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) in August.
Tourism Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg said that all the traders involved have agreed to move to Medan Niaga Satok as he added that the new venue comes with better standard to market their products.
The new market offers more comfort and cleanliness as well as scenic view of the Sarawak river. Abang Johari also revealed that there was further plans to connect the Medan Niaga Satok to the iconic Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) via the Sarawak River.
Also in plans are the development of a show theater which is capable of accommodating around 100 pax at one time.
The fate of the existing Sunday Market site remains unknown as the minister only said that it would be cleaned up for future innovative ideas.
