Sarawak’s own airline will fly to neighbouring countries

The coming Sarawak’s own airline will likely start it’s international routes to Singapore, Indonesia, and Brunei, before venturing into other markets overseas.

These countries are neighbouring countries to Sarawak.

According to an article by DayakDaily which quoted Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry & Performing Arts, Minister of Youth, Sports & Entrepreneur Development Sarawak, Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the airline would serve nearby routes before flying to other countries such as Europe, Australia, Japan and even Korea.

The Sarawak government had in previous months intensified their desire to have Sarawak’s own airline to reduce travel cost between West Malaysia and Sarawak which is now monopolized by West Malaysian based companies.

Recently, the Federal Government of Malaysia had agreed to the request with the Sarawak Government agreeing to take over MASWings in principal.

The name of the new airline has not been decided, but with increased intensity for its set-up, its likely a new airline will soon materialize.

Currently, Kuching is served by about seven airlines.
