Petra Jaya Hospital expected to open in 2025
The long delayed Petra Jaya Hospital will finally be open in 2025.
Borneo Post reported that the construction of the hospital is now nearing completeion with Malaysian Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad quoted by the daily as saying that it is 80 percent complete.
Dzulkefly was also quoted as saying that the former ‘sick project’ is expected to be operational in the third quarter of 2025 (July – September 2025).
What happened to Petra Jaya Hospital
According to The Star, the hospital started construction in 2013, and was originally expected to open in November 2016.
However, despite extensions, the original contractor only able to finish 34.5 per cent of the project by 2018, resulting in their termination from the project.
A rescue contractor was appointed in 2020, with the 300 bed hospital expected to be completed in at the end of 2024 before being operational in August 2025.
The hospital is expected to serve those in Demak, Petra Jaya, Pending and Samariang due to its proximity to these areas.
Once completed, the RM610 million hospital will be the second general hospital in Kuching after the Sarawak General Hospital.
