Occupancy Permit issued for UNIFOR Complex

The unique looking Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) Complex has been issued an occupational permit (OP) from the Kuching South City Council (MBKS).

Borneo Post1 reports that the OP was handed over to Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, who is in charge of UNIFOR, by Council of the City of Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.

A simple handing over ceremony was conducted with Sarawak Deputy Premier Dr Sim Kui Hian, also noting in his Facebook post2 that the handing over of the keys to the complex was also done during the same ceremony.

According to Douglas Uggah, beside from being the headquarters for religions other than Islam in Sarawak, the complex is also a symbol of unity and diversity in Sarawak.

The UNIFOR Complex will be managed by the UNIFOR Trust.

UNIFOR Complex tenants

Dr Sim Kui Hian in his Facebook posting also noted that four out of the 10 storeys office tower at the complex will be rented by UNIFOR which is part of the Sarawak’s Premier Department.

The money from the rent will be paid to the UNIFOR Trust which manages the building.

Dr Sim also stated that with the new building, UNIFOR now has its own home which will provide conducive environment for its meetings and activities, with the Sarawak government providing RM90 million financial grant for church and temple infrastucture, and another RM20 million for mission schools in Sarawak.

The UNIFOR building took 24 months to complete with the building expected to be fully functional next year.

Located at Jalan Ong Tiang Swee, the complex is 10-storeys high comes ready with a banquet hall which can hold 1,000 people at one time, meeting rooms, a garden roof, commercial areas, and convention facilities.
