More hotel rooms for Sarawak
The number of international-class hotel rooms in the state capital will be raised by more than 40% when nine new projects currently underway are completed.
These new hotels (three-star and above) will supply more than 1,800 rooms to the market when operational. At present, there are 23 three- to five-star hotels here providing a total of 4,371 rooms.
Among them is the proposed 18-storey four-star Majestic Tower Hotel located next to Riverside Majestic Hotel in the city’s golden triangle. It will offer 268 rooms when ready in July next year.
Other on-going hotel projects include the 360 Waterfront Hotel at Plaza Merdeka, Imperial Hotel next to Boulevard Shopping Complex and Citadines Kuching Uplands at ST3.
Hotel 56, which is located off Jalan Tun Jugah, was the first hotel to open for business this year. The new business hotel offers 155 rooms and conference facilities.
In Bintulu and Miri, one international-class hotel each is currently being built. The proposed Bintulu hotel would have 336 rooms and the new Miri hotel 176 rooms.
Also on the drawing board are two more hotel projects in Bintulu (total 186 rooms) and one in Miri (560 rooms).
Bintulu currently has eight international-class hotels (three-star and above) supplying 867 rooms while there are six similar hotels (one of which was upgraded from a service apartment) in Miri, with a total of 1,114 rooms.
In Sibu, the five existing three-star and above hotels contribute a total of 1,022 rooms. There is no new hotel project there.
