Massive BCCK 2 expected to be ready ahead of schedule

The completion date of the new Borneo Convention Centre Kuching 2 (known best as BCCK 2) has been brought forward.

Innitially scheduled for completion in 2028, the massive convention centre is scheduled for completion at the end of 2027.

The RM550 million project, which began construction in April, is currently ahead of its scheduled progress, having achieved 3.27 per cent completion as of last week.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas emphasized the project’s importance to Sarawak, noting it is expected to host major international events.

Specifically, the new centre is anticipated to host the International Water Association (IWA) World Congress and Exhibition in 2028, which is projected to attract over 10,000 global participants.

The new facility will be a significant landmark, featuring a main hall capable of accommodating up to 9,500 people, nearly doubling the capacity of the existing BCCK.

It will also include a multi-storey car park with over 1,000 bays, 20 smaller meeting rooms, and a riverside facility.

The BCCK 2 will be linked to the current BCCK by a covered pedestrian bridge to create an integrated convention hub.

The project incorporates Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology as part of Sarawak’s digitalization agenda, with the Public Works Department (PWD) ensuring strict monitoring for timely and quality completion.
