Malaysia Airlines announces 112 additional flights to East Malaysia
Malaysia Airlines in a recent statement announced that it is increasing the number of flights to East Malaysia in Borneo, scheduling additional flights for Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year which are practically almost back-to-back.
Christmas and New Year additional flights
The airline said that it will operate 112 additional red-eye flights between Kuala Lumpur (KUL) and East Malaysia from 19 December to 1 January 2025
The additional flights to East Malaysia include up to 66 additional flights to and from Sabah.
Airports which will enjoy this extra flights specifically are Kota Kinabalu (BKI), Sandakan (SDK) and Tawau (TWU).
For Sarawak, 46 additional flights to and from Sarawak will benefit those specifically going to or flying from Kuching (KCH) and Miri (MYY) airport.
These additional flights mean that Malaysia Airlines will offer up to a total of 596 flights between Kuala Lumpur and East Malaysia during the said travel dates.
Chinese New Year additional flights
For Chinese New year, the airline is also offering fixed fares with their all-in one-way fares.
These fares start at RM349 to and from Sabah and Sarawak, and is available exclusively on Malaysia Airlines’ official website and mobile app.
Despite the more affordable fares during a festive season, Malaysia Airlines will increase their flights as well for Chinese New Year as they operate 102 additional red-eye flights between 24 January to 4 February 2025.
These flights increase the volume of weekly flights to 219 weekly flights to and from Sabah and Sarawak during this period.

Additionally, passengers are also reminded to arrive at the airport at least three hours before departure to allow sufficient time for check-in, security screening, and boarding.
