KUTS ART Hikmah Exchange Station feature terabai shaped roof

Sarawak Metro shared the artist impression for their KUTS ART Hikmah Exchange Station in Kuching on Malaysia Day.

The artist impression showed an elevated Hikmah Exchange Station for the Kuching Hydrogen Blue Line of the Kuching Urban Transformation System (KUTS) Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) which will be built in the near future.

Based on the video shared, the station will be similar to the one in front of the Kuching International Airport (KIA), as it will also feature a “terabai shaped” roof.

In case you didn’t know, the terabai is an Iban or Dayak warrior shield used to protect warriors during battles.

However, unlike the KUTS ART KIA Station, the KUTS ART Hikmah Exchange Station will be connected to two buildings within its vicinity via a link bridge, namely the Kuching City Mosque and Hikmah Exchange.

Artist impression shows one of the link bridge pointing to an exit which goes to Kuching City Mosque, Borneo Cultures Museum and Majma Mall, although the later two are quite a distance from the Kuching City Mosque, being nearer to Hikmah Exchange instead. Perhaps this was an error in the video which would be corrected when the building is completed.

Also different in the Hikmah Exchange Station is the exterior pattern of the whole building which has some sort of triangular shape to it.

The video shared by Sarawak Metro also showed the station having two elavated platforms with escalators bringing users to each platforms. There seems to be shops included in ths station as well.

Photos of Hikmah Exchange Station, taken from the video, can be seen below.

The Hikmah Exchange Station will be built on the current car park, known as ‘Padang Pasir’ which is sandwiched between Hikmah Exchange and the Kuching City Mosque.

The station will likely be an important station to KUTS ART as within 10 minutes walk from the station is popular locations such as Padang Merdeka, St Thomas Cathedral, Plaza Merdeka, Kuching Waterfront, India Street , Borneo Cultures Museum, Majma Mall, Wisma Hopoh, Chung Hua Middle School No. 4, RTM Sarawak, Jalan Masjid Health Clinic, Yayasan Sarawak, Merdeka Palace and Sarawak Islamic Heritage Museum.
