Kuching wins Clean Tourist City award

Kuching City was recently awarded as national level winners of ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard (2022 -2024).

The award was part of the ASEAN Tourism Standard Awards, which is an award given to acknowledge quality services to tourist based.

Results were announced by the Ministry of Tourism and Cultures Malaysia (MOTAC).

The award is based on the ASEAN Tourism Standard and ASEAN Strategic Tourism Plan 2016 – 2025, which is also a standard for all ASEAN member countries and regional tourism industry players to use as a guide in providing high quality and excellent service delivery to tourists.

For Kuching, both the Majlis Bandaraya Kuching Selatan (MBKS) and Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara (BBKU) both were named and awarded national winners of ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard (2022 -2024).

The award ceremony was held recently at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur, with representatives of both councils attending to received the award.

Besides Kuching, other cities like the Miri City Council (MCC) and Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) also were awarded winners of the same category.

This technically means that all major cities in Sarawak have won the award at this time’s ASEAN Tourism Standard Awards.

When it came to National level ASEAN MICE Venue Standard (Meeting Room) in the awards, Imperial Hotel Kuching won the award.

Just for the sake of comparison, George Town (Penang), Muar (Johor) and Langkawi (Kedah) were awarded the ASEAN level winners for the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard (2022 -2024).
