Kuching makes record for ‘Biggest Christmas Carol in Malaysia’

Number of carollers exceed organizers expectations

A total of 2,479 people came in force to Padang Merdeka on December 3, 2023, to make Kuching’s “A Christmas Carol: Sarawak in Diversity” a record breaking event as it became the ‘Biggest Christmas Carol by attendance’ in Malaysia.

The record was acknowledged by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR).

According to media reports, the event was organized by Unit for Other Religion (UNIFOR) with the support of TVS.

TVS reported that the organizers were only expecting 1,500 expected to turn up.

However, the official figures showed the number of participants almost double, with people from all walks of life and religion, wearing white, while belting out a number of beautiful Christmas carols.

Among the carols which were sung were ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’, ‘Feliz Navidad’, and ‘O’ Holy Night’.
