Kuching International Airport ART Station design showcased in latest video

The Kuching International Airport (KIA) ART station, coded SR06, will be elevated, at least as shown by the most recent video released by Sarawak Metro.

The 1 minute and 21 seconds video shows the station located in the middle what is currently the Kuching International Airport public car park, with a skybridge (called Pedestrian Crossing Departure Hall) connecting it to the second floor (departure floor) of the international airport.

From the video, it seems that the Kuching International Airport ART Station would be somewhat 100 – 200 meters from the current airport.

The video also shows users need to take the escalator up to the ART platform area from the concourse.

The concourse of the station shown in the video shows it is at the same level of the departure hall area, with the platforms placed up one level.

The station design by itself looks modern and minimalist, but lacks any ‘Sarawak flavour’, perhaps likely not in tune with the modern hydrogen ART system which will be used. The roof however does seem like its inspired by the ‘Terabai’, which is the Iban shield.

I would had added Dayak elements left, right and centre to the station but that’s probably just my ‘Dayak heritage’ speaking out.

Regardless, the video is perhaps just an illustration of what one could expect when Sarawak Metro builds the elevated stations for the on-going ART Project, so one can take the designs depicted here with a pinch of salt for now as they can change in the near future.

Sarawak Metro, in their brief description under the video said that the selected elevated station will be equipped with lifts and escalators to allow ease of access for the elderly, pregnant women, and people with disabilities (PWDs).

The company also said that all stations will be equipped with an Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system, Passenger Information Display System (PIDS), and CCTVs.

Photos taken from the video can be seen below.

In case you didn’t know, the Kuching International Airport (KIA) ART station is part of the Kuching Urban Transformation System (KUTS) Red Line which had begun constuction recently.

Aside from learning more about KUTS HERE, you can also visit Sarawak Metro for more details on this billion ringgit project.
