The inaugural Kuching Busking Festival (KBFest) will be held for the first time this coming September 2023.
According to information obtained from its social media site, the festival will feature busking and street art performances from 15 – 17 September 202.
A report by Borneo Post reported that the festival was inspired by the well-known Tamworth Country Music Festival in Australia, which is a festival that is attended by thousands of fans for the past 50 years.
According to its social media page, the festival is organized by CreativeUmbrella Co. with the support from the State Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports and Rotary Club of Kuching Unity City.
Kuching Busking Festival 2023 categories
There are two categories to contest in during the festival.
These categories are singled out as below.
- Category A is for singers and musicians
- Category B is for dancers, artist, actors, storytellers and other talents/acts.
Kuching Busking Festival 2023 prizes
For this maiden edition, buskers participating in the event stand a chance to win cash prizes for finishing in the top three of the two categories being opened.
Prizes are seen below.
- Winner: RM2,000
- 2nd: RM1,500
- 3rd: RM1,000
- People’s Choice category: RM500
General rules and regulation
Buskers are allowed to perform and share their artistry and creativity as they please but but performances must comply with laws and guidelines – with no elements of politics, race, religion, and sex.
Locally accepted conduct, including dress code, with no nudity allowed must also be observed.

Kuching Busking Festival 2023 time and venue
The festival’s preliminary round will be held at Carpenter Street, Merdeka Plaza, and Main Bazaar.
The festival’s respective time is listed below.
- Preliminary rounds: 15 – 16 September 2023, from 6.30PM onwards
- Finals: 17 September, 7.30PM at Plaza Merdeka.
