Kuching astronomy centre to be in Pantai Damai
An astronomy centre is planned for Pantai Damai here in Kuching.
The plans was revealed by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, and it was reported by Borneo Post.
In case you didn’t know, Pantai Damai is a constituency which covers Telaga Air, Salak, Temenggong, Jaya Bakti, Santubong, Buntal, Rampangi, Sejinjang, Astana, Demak Baru, Semarang, and Bintawa.
That said, any one of the area could be the location for the proposed centre especially considering Pantai Damai is well connected by road and public amenities.
Not much details was revealed about the proposed astronomy centre except that it will encourage youths to study space science and further promote science, technology, engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Astronomy centres in Sarawak
Currently, the closest thing in regards to astronomy in Kuching is the Planetarium Sultan Iskandar, which is located at Jalan Taman Budaya.
In Sarawak however, there’s already an astronomy centre ready in Miri with Bintulu soon to have one as well.
Therefore, a Kuching astronomy centre is much welcomed considering Kuching is the capital of Sarawak.
