“Friends in Concert” sold out concert was spectacular!
The recently concluded “Friends in Concert” musical performances ended with many heaping huge praise over what was presented by four bands/groups/orchestras.
The event which took place on 10th December 2022 at the Tan Sri William Tan Auditorium in SMK St. Joseph, Kuching, was already sold out within days of ticket sales, and it featured the internationally renowned St. Joseph’s School Marching Band, St. Joseph’s Private School Concert Band, St. Teresa’s School Concert Band and guest performers from Sri Kuala Lumpur International School Wind Orchestra.
Themed “Friends in Concert”, the bands performed different genres of music from contemporary wind band works and traditional marches to oldies by Frank Sinatra and modern pop music by BTS.
According to Music Director Wilson Tan, the concert was a huge success and it was indeed an amazing opportunity to showcase the talents of local Kuching students in the world of wind band.
Dato Sri Dr. Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Premier of Sarawak and President of the Old Josephians’ Association also gave praise for the event by saying that the success of the concert was possible because the talents and passion of the students, dedication enthusiasm and professionalism of the teachers, mentors, instructors, support & love of the parents, and generous funding from everyone.
The finale of the concert was conducted by Maestro Mitsuo Nonami from Japan, as he also brought some festive cheers by performing Jingle Bells with the combined bands of all four schools.
The success of the concert will see it returning next year in September with a prominent and world-renowned composer and conductor from USA coming down to Kuching in September 2023.
