Direct flights to Phnom Penh next on Sarawak airline list
The new Sarawak airline is also considering flights to Phnom Penh in Cambodia.
UKAS today reported that Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg stated this as he made a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on December 7, 2024.
According to the UKAS report, the Premier stated that Cambodia’s rich history, and the fact it is only two hours by air from Kuching, makes it a potential candidate for direct flights with Sarawak’s up-coming new state-owned airline.
The new Sarawak owned airline is expected to materialize next year with the Sarawak government said to be ready to conclude the deal to take over MASWings by the end of the month.
With such event closing near, the Premier of Sarawak has hinted numerous routes for the airline, with flights to neighbouring cities, which now include Phnom Penh, one of the many mentioned.
Prior to this, Abang Johari also stated that the new Sarawak airline will fly to South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia and Germany.
