CIQS between Sarawak & Brunei open til midnight until Feb 2
To facilitate smoother travel during the upcoming Lunar New Year festivities, the Malaysian government has extended operating hours at all four land immigration control points (CIQS) in Sarawak, with Brunei until February 2nd.
This decision, announced by Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, and reported by Borneo Post, comes in response to recent traffic congestion caused by maintenance work on the Vehicle Monitoring System (VMS).
The system upgrade has temporarily prevented foreign vehicles from registering online before entering Malaysia.
The extended operating hours will be in effect at the following border crossings:
- CIQS Sungai Tujuh (Miri)
- CIQS Tedungan (Limbang)
- CIQS Pandaruan (Limbang)
- CIQS Mengkalap (Lawas)
The minister was quoted also quoted as saying that the decision was made following a meeting with Brunei counterparts.
Meanwhile, Sarawak Malaysia Immigration Department had made the official announcement that the CIQS Sarawak in Miri, Lawas and Limbang as stated above will be open from 6AM to midnight until Feb 2 as well.
Travelers can now expect reduced wait times and a more enjoyable border crossing experience as they celebrate the Lunar New Year with loved ones.
