Better street lamps for Kuching

In an effort to turn Kuching into a green city, the authorities will use light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs for street lamps.

The move, under the “Kuching clear, beautiful, safe” plan, will take five years to implement, beginning this year.

“Not only are LED bulbs good for the environment, they last longer and are energy- efficiency,” said Kuching North Mayor Datuk Abang Wahap Abang Julai, when met after the launch of a World Arbour Day tree-planting ceremony by the chief minister’s wife, Puan Sri Raghad Kurdi Taib, in Jalan Bako here yesterday.

Streetlights along the Main Bazaar in front of the Kuching Waterfront already use LED bulbs, and the next to be fitted with them are the streetlights along Padang Merdeka.
