The construction of a new police station in Matang Jaya is underway, with the project moving forward to provide enhanced security for residents in the area.
A special notice to tenderers from JKR Sarawak indicates that a compulsory site visit and briefing for the “Proposed Construction of Matang Jaya Police Station, Padawan, Sarawak” was held on November 28, 2024.
The notice suggests that the tender for the construction works has been issued and is in the process of being awarded.
As a matter of fact, JKR Sarawak also shared a rendering of the proposed police station once it is completed as you can see below.

The plan for a new police station in the up-coming area is not a recent development.
As far back as 2015, the then Deputy State Police Commissioner, Datuk Dr Chai Khin Chung, identified Matang Jaya as one of the areas where a new police station was being proposed to improve police response times and better serve the public.
While a previous report from 2016 mentioned a police station would be ready in Matang within a few months, it appears this was a temporary location in a renovated three-story shop lot.
The current project, which was announced by JKR Sarawak, depicts a purpose-built facility complete with class E and F quarters, a genset house, a case store, a garage, and a guard house.
The facility is located about 5.1KM from The Matang E-mart roundabout, with completion expected to take two years, on May 6th, 2027.
