ZUS Coffee begins reforestation journey in Kinabatangan

ZUS Coffee has launched a significant reforestation initiative, planting the first 500 of 5,000 native trees in Kg. Sukau, Kinabatangan, in collaboration with Animal Projects & Environmental Education (APE Malaysia).
According to ZUS Coffee, this project is more than just a corporate social responsibility effort; it’s a deep commitment to environmental stewardship, reflecting ZUS Coffee’s belief in building a better future through conscious choices today.
The “Kopi to Kinabatangan Canopy” initiative aims to restore vital forest corridors, protect biodiversity, and empower local communities, reimagining how brands can contribute to real-world climate solutions.
The success of this reforestation effort is deeply rooted in collaboration and community involvement.
The trees were grown from seeds and saplings provided by the skilled villagers of Kg. Sukau, whose extensive local knowledge ensured the quality of the young plants and strengthened their role in the restoration.
These saplings were then nurtured in APE Malaysia’s nursery, which houses 22 native species, before being prepared for field planting by both APE Malaysia’s field team and ZUS Coffee’s employees.
This hands-on approach underscores the collective purpose behind the project.
Crucially, this ambitious restoration project has been significantly supported by over 341,000 ZUS Coffee App users, demonstrating the power of collective action.
Thanks to their backing, an area previously cleared by logging is now showing encouraging signs of recovery, with orangutan nests and elephant feeding activity already observed.
