WAK 2025: Borneo’s biggest cultural festival goes regional

The highly anticipated What About Kuching (WAK) Festival is set to return in 2025, broadening its reach across Sarawak.

In addition to its traditional home in Kuching, the festival will extend to Sibu and Miri, offering a wider platform for celebrating the region’s rich cultural heritage.

With the official launch of its Call for Proposals (CFP), WAK 2025 invites creatives, artists, and cultural practitioners to contribute their unique perspectives and talents.

This expansion signifies WAK’s commitment to fostering artistic expression and community engagement throughout Borneo.

Under the theme “Roots,” WAK 2025 emphasizes a deep connection to grassroots communities and artistic disciplines.

The festival will showcase a diverse range of events, including Open Mic Platforms, Visual Arts, Handicrafts, and Cultural Heritage initiatives.

By providing opportunities for emerging artists, local artisans, and cultural advocates, WAK aims to amplify the voices and creative expressions that define Sarawak and Borneo.

The festival’s focus on lifestyle-driven pursuits further enriches its appeal, drawing in a broad audience and fostering a vibrant cultural exchange.

Mark your calendars for WAK Sibu from June 6-8, WAK Miri from June 13-15, and WAK Kuching from October 1-31.

What About Kuching 2025 promises to be an unforgettable celebration of Sarawak and Borneo’s heritage, traditions, and creative spirit.

This festival not only showcases the artistic talent of the region but also strengthens the bonds within its communities, ensuring the legacy of Borneo’s cultural roots continues to flourish.
