UNIMAS KUTS ART Station use ‘Teratak concept’
UNIMAS is probably one of their first landmarks to have their very own Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) Station, but until now, no proposed design of the station had been shared officially by Sarawak Metro on their Youtube channel.
Generally, the company had been revealing more about KUTS ART with it showing their proposed elevated station designs of their up-coming stations on their official social media.
The two videos showed so far had only shown one of the two types of stations for the system, namely the elevated station which uses the ‘ruai-concept’ and looks like the ‘terabai’ from above.
While two of the elevated stations, namely the KUTS ART HIKMAH Exchange Station and KUTS Kuching International Airport Station had already been shared by the company prior to this, none of the proposed at-grade station had been shared on the Sarawak Metro Youtube channel.
However, in a video shared by Alex Yii in December 2023, the UNIMAS at-grade station was shown, giving an idea what many can expect from such station type.
In the video, the KUTS ART UNIMAS Station is seen occupying the middle of the road at an at-grade manner with the ART platform also at-grade level.
The station is positioned in the middle of the highway, making it close to impossible for pedeestrians to jaywalk to the station.
This KUTS ART UNIMAS station is therefore connected to each end of the highway with an overpass, with Sarawak Metro stating that that the station is using the ‘Teratak Concept’.
‘Teratak’ means “a humble hut” in Malay, but the at grade station seems to be well equipped with auto gates, escalators, lay-bys for passenger drop-off and pick-up, overhead pedestrian crossings equipped with lifts, washrooms and amenities for people with disabilities.
Aside from that, the UNIMAS station in the image also does seem to incorporate local cultural designs to its facade.
Since the I couldn’t find the original video uploaded on to Sarawak Metro’s official Youtube, there may be changes in the station’s design although such information given abouve would give you an idea of what to expect from the at grade stations.
You can see the full video of the stations in the video below.
