SMK Sri Samarahan: Latest public school in Samarahan to be ready by year end

The highly anticipated Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sri Samarahan construction project has achieved a remarkable physical progress rate of 96.40 per cent.

This new public secondary school educational facility is now entering its final phase and is firmly set to be completed in November 2025, aligning precisely with the established implementation timeline.

The Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak confirmed the near-completion status, highlighting the positive development that will soon deliver a much-needed school to the local community.

Key Project Details

The extensive project, valued at an estimated RM53.7 million, is poised to become a key educational hub in the region. The project was first approved in 2018, with construction commencing shortly thereafter.

The school’s construction is now being overseen by the JKR Samarahan Division.

SMK Sri Samarahan is strategically located in the Kota Samarahan district, situated near Kampung Meranek and Kampung Empila.

Once operational, the new secondary school will be a vital resource, designed to accommodate up to 1,500 students.

It is expected to significantly alleviate the strain of overcrowding currently faced by nearby public secondary schools such as SMK Muara Tuang and SMK Kota Samarahan.

Modern Facilities and Safety Oversight

The infrastructure is designed to be modern and conducive for learning, featuring a total of 42 standard classrooms and three dedicated classes for the Integrated Special Education Program (PPKI), along with a comprehensive suite of other supporting facilities.

These supporting facilities include a football field, a massive multipurpose hall, a guard house, a basketball court, science laboraries and several covered parking areas.

It will also have a covered walkway from the pick-up zone up to the academic blocks. Photos of the building have been shared by JKR Sarawak on Facebook and can also be seen below.

The near-completion status of SMK Sri Samarahan marks a pivotal moment for the Samarahan Division. It signifies the culmination of years of planning and construction, promising to enhance educational quality and provide a safer, more comfortable learning environment for the next generation of students. As the project pushes past the 96 per cent mark, the focus remains firmly on delivering the final touches and ensuring that all facilities meet the required standards ahead of the November 2025 handover. Local residents and educators are eagerly anticipating the opening of this vital new educational asset.
