Sarawak Metro shares ART Green Line alignment and stations
Sarawak Metro today shared the final Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) line they are constructing under Phase 1 of the Kuching Urban Transportation System Project: the Green Line.
According to their brief statement on thier official social media site, the 30KM alignment from Pending to Damai Central offers a picturesque journey through a mix of landscapes and notable landmarks such as Wisma Bapa Malaysia, the proposed Sarawak Performing Arts Centre, Stadium Perpaduan, Mount Santubong, and Sarawak Cultural Village.
The video shared also shows the line starting with the Pending Station, located not far from Telekom Malaysia’s property which is beside Jalan Datuk Merican Salleh.
The ART then crosses the Tun Salahuddin Bridge (Toll Bidge) before proceeding to another station in Darul Hana which is located just after the Darul Hana Islamic Park.
The next station, called “Wisma Bapa” is located about 5 minutes walk to the Kuching Courthouse, with the ART Green Line making a right turn to its fourth station named “Menara Pelita”, which is just in front of Menara Pelita.
From there, it by-passes Pustaka Sarawak and currently under construction Sarawak Science Centre to stop at the sixth station named “Stadium” just in front of Wisma Sumber Alam.
Wisma Sumber Alam is between both the stadium grounds and Pustaka Sarawak, but it does require a 15 – 20 minute walk from both sides, making it quite a distance to be honest.
From the Stadium station, tyhe ART Green Line passes Kasuma Resort, the Yayasan Sarawak International School and stops at Lebuhraya Pehin Sri Adenan Satem, right in the middle of huge cleared piece of land for its fifth station called “Waterfront”.
Interestingly, opposite the cleared piece of land, just after the secondary forest, is MRSM Kuching and Institut Kemahiran Mara Kuching.
The ART Green Line then proceeds to it’s seventh station which is opposite Yayasan Sarawak and aptly named “Yayasan Sarawak”. According to the integrated Transit Map by Sarawak Metro, the Yayasan Sarawak station would also serve as a future integrated station.
From there, it then proceeds along Jalan Sultan Tengah to its Bandar Baru Samariang Station with the station located just in front of what is now One Stop Superstore Samariang.
The ART surprisingly by-passes several major housing areas like Kuching Family Park, Kampung Rampangi and PPR Petra Jaya 1, but does stop in front of Taman Mutiara Damai with its station called “Pasir Panjang”.
The ART Green Line then crosses the Santubong River and surprised us again when it didn’t stop in front of Centexs Sarawak, but instead had its next station at the fringes of Institute Aminuddin Baki and Sekolah Seni Malaysia Sarawak.
Checks on their website show that this station would be connected to the Green Line’s Sungai Batu Depot.
It then proceeds to its Cove 55 station, which is quite a distance from the main road, before moving on to it’s ninth station called “Santubong”, located just before the Mausoleum of Sultan Tengah.
The ART then proceeds on to its Damai Golf Course station which is not far from the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Haji Adenan Satem’s residence before ending at its final station after the Sarawak Cultural Village at Damai Sentral.
Sarawak Metro explains that the construction of the Green Line is targeted for completion before August 2027.
