Sarawak Metro today released their Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report for the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) Green Line which connect Pending to Damai.
According to Sarawak Metro, the EIA Report will be available for the public to read until 9 November 2024.
Those having any feedback on the EIA Report can submit their comments from today until 24 November 2024.

What is in the report?
In general, the EIA Report is quite comprehensive, detailing and answering some questions the public have in regards to the Kuching ART project.
Based on my brief findings, the Kuching ART Green Line EIA Report does touch on the history of the Kuching ART alignment and routes, feasibility studies related to the ART, as well reasons why the route goes through certain areas.
The report also details environmental studies and impacts which will be caused by the Kuching ART Green Line, as well as how Sarawak Metro intends to address them.
In the report, some interesting concerns Sarawak Metro noted is their awareness that the Kuching ART Green Line construction will affect traffic flow as well as increase risk to road users.
They also stated that the company is aware of the impact the construction has on the community livelihood, particularly at Kg Sungai Batu.
Proposals and justifications to address these concerns were stated in the report.
When it comes to the Santubong National Park, Sarawak Metro noted the construction will not impact the Santubong National Park as the closest distance of the ART to the protected are is 220m, while the construction of the alignment near Cove 55 is confined within the existing road reserve and would not impact the coastline or the coastal waters of the bay.
In addition, the report states that water, air, noise and vibration polution due to the construction of the Kuching ART Green Line would be monitored on a monthly basis.
Aside from that, the EIA report also stated that a third-party enviromental site audit will be carried out once every four months during the constuction stage with aim to determing compliance if the enviromental requirements.
