Proposed floodlights for Bau Stadium to be installed in 2026

The installation of high-mast floodlights for the Bau Mini Stadium is now anticipated to be completed in 2026.

This revised timeline was announced by YB Datuk Henry following a special meeting to re-evaluate the project’s tender.

The initial plan had projected that the community would be able to use the stadium for evening sports and recreation, such as football, by the end of 2025.

However, with the tender being re-evaluated, the timeline has been moved to 2026.

The main reason for the delay stems from an insufficient original allocation.

The Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), the implementing agency, found that the initial budget of approximately RM2.7 million, approved under the GKCDA, was inadequate.

This was due to the addition of new work scopes involving external parties like Sarawak Energy.

These additions are crucial to ensure the electrical supply can meet the maximum power requirements for the high-voltage lighting system.

YB Datuk Henry nonetheless had assured that the review process is underway to secure the necessary funding.

While the delay is disappointing, the focus remains on ensuring the project’s success and delivering a safe, high-quality venue that truly benefits the residents of Bau for years to come.
