Kuching to build first Malaysian autism-friendly playground

The Council of the City of Kuching South (MBKS) is building Malaysia’s first ever autism-friendly playground which will be about 3,000 – 4,000 square feet.

Kuching South Mayor, Datuk Wee Hong Seng in his live feed of the project handover, said that the project and playground would also be the first in Borneo.

He also said that the playground would be built at Palmarium Park, which is a park located not far from the headquarters of MBKS, and within the jurisdiction of the same council.

Wee said that the autism-friendly playground represents isn’t just about the equipment, but also their commitment to every child in the community.

Wee also said that the design of the playground, as well as the selection of the location was done with the advice from the Kuching Autistic Association (KAA).

It was also mentioned that the playground received a grant of RM430,000 with MBKS is allocating topping RM 55,000 to make the RM485,000 project a reality.

The project is expected to take four months, with the playground expected to be completed before Christmast this year.

Once the autism-friendly playground is completed, a new name is expected to be given to the park.

It is also understood that the project is the first project to be monitored by the newly established Kuching South Child Council Members with the help of MBKS.
