The Kuching International Busking Festival (KIBF) 2024 will be held from 29 – 31 August 2024 at the streets of Old Kuching Town.
This will be the second time such festival is organized, with the first successfully completed last year from 15 – 17 September 2024.
According to an article by New Sarawak Tribune, the competition this year will offer 48 spots with prizes worth over RM11,000 in cash.
This means the festival has expanded if compared to last year.
The top 10 buskers will enter the competition finals and stand to win cash prizes each, with buskers under 18 also having a chance to win one of five cash prizes through the Best Young Talent Awards U18.
In addition, one winner will be selected for the People’s Choice Award, and Emerging Artist Award.
Buskers must perform a minimum of 90 minutes per night, with breaks allowed, and will be judged based on vocal quality, instrumental quality, crowd engagement, and presentation.
The event will see performers performing around the streets of Old Kuching Town which include Carpenter Street, Jalan Ewe Hai, Main Bazaar, China Street, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, India Street, Jalan Courthouse, Gambir Street, and Plaza Merdeka Shopping Mall from 6PM to 10PM on 29 – 30th August with the Grand Finals scheduled from 7PM to 9PM, on 31 August 2024 at Plaza Merdeka Shopping Mall.
UKAS in their article said that there would also be local school groups from Kuching High, Tunku Putra – HELP, St Thomas, St Mary, and St Teresa.
