Kuching considered red zone for Covid-19 cases

Kuching is now listed as a red zone area for Covid-19 cases.

This comes with 31 new confirmed cases of the disease detected in the district up to 1 April 2020, 12:00 noon today.

The 31 confirm cases puts Kuching district as having the highest number of Covid-19 cases detected in a district on a single day in Malaysia.

According to the statement released by the Sarawak Disaster Committee, Kuching now has 118 confirmed cases since the count of Covid-19 confirm casses was started by the government.

The figure, added with one more confirmed Covid-19 case in Samarahan, puts Sarawak as the state with the biggest number of cases in Malaysia up to 12 noon today.

Despite the figures, it is not known which areas in Kuching are considered a hot spot for the disease although there are unconfirmed rumours spreading online.

So far, the Sarawak government has not enforced any additional Movement Control Order (MCO) measures in Kuching, but reports by the public suggest that road blocks within the city have increased.

Kuching so far also retained the 7AM to 7PM MCO time, with inter-district travel also limited to those with permits.

Local councils have also started doing disinfection of public places and markets.
