Kota Samarahan to be major event hub with massive Samarahan Boulevard

Kota Samarahan is poised to become a focal point in Sarawak with the development of the Samarahan Boulevard, a project aimed at providing a large, versatile space for events and enhancing community life.

This ambitious project, described as potentially the largest boulevard in Sarawak, and possibly Borneo or Malaysia, is set to become a new iconic landmark for the region.

The Samarahan Boulevard is envisioned as an alternative venue for major events, potentially easing congestion in Kuching.

With a length of approximately two kilometers and a width exceeding 20 meters, the boulevard will offer ample space for large gatherings, parades, and celebrations.

Sarawak’s Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, has highlighted the boulevard’s potential to host events that currently take place at Padang Merdeka in Kuching.

Beyond its function as an event venue, the Samarahan Boulevard is designed to be a vibrant public space for the community. Plans include recreational facilities, jogging tracks, family areas, and spaces for relaxation.

The project aims to create a conducive lifestyle for residents, fostering social interaction and strengthening community bonds.

Phase 1 of the Samarahan Boulevard project has already been awarded to a contractor, with construction slated to begin soon.

The entire project, with an estimated cost of RM130 million, is being developed in phases.

It is understood that the boulevard will stretch from the roundabout near Masjid Al-Muttaqin to the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) headquarters.

The project is funded by the Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (IRSDA) and implemented by MPKS.

The Samarahan Boulevard is part of a broader development plan for Kota Samarahan, which is rapidly growing as an educational and residential hub.

The Taman Tasik Desa Ilmu project, featuring a unique ‘Perahu Tambang’ (traditional boat) design, complements the boulevard, providing additional recreational amenities for the community.

These projects reflect a strategic effort to transform Kota Samarahan into a vibrant and livable satellite town within the Greater Kuching area.
