Kenyalang Smart City Lagoon Theme Park: All you need to know about the first water theme park in Miri

The ambitious Kenyalang Smart City (KSC) project in Miri is set to add a new and exciting attraction to its comprehensive masterplan with the development of a modern, and first of its kind water theme park, known as the Miri Kenyalang Smart City Lagoon Theme Park.

The Lagoon Theme Park, which is part of the larger KSC initiative to transform Miri into a “Green, Smart, and most Liveable International Resort City,” aims to be a key tourist destination in Sarawak.

Location

The Kenyalang Smart City, which is an integrated smart city development spanning 543 acres in Miri, is strategically located adjacent to the Curtin University Malaysia campus and is approximately a 15-minute drive from the Brunei-Malaysia border.

Therefore, this Miri Kenyalang Smart City Water Park, will be situated within this master development, specifically on a 9-acre plot of land in the Senadin area.

Facilities and Cost

The water theme park is envisioned as more than just a place for fun; it will integrate elements of education and sustainability.

According to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between KSC’s developer, Imasa Dinasti Sdn Bhd, and CMWaterpark, the park will be developed in phases with an estimated total cost of RM75 million.

The proposed facilities include:

  • Child safety facilities
  • Wave pools
  • Water slides
  • Interactive aqua parks
  • Food and beverage (F&B) industries

The park’s concept is aligned with the broader “smart city” idea, combining entertainment with vocational learning opportunities.

Construction and Completion

The overall Kenyalang Smart City project is a long-term development planned to be completed over a 15-20 year period, segmented into five parcels.

While the specific construction and completion dates for the water theme park have not been detailed, the signing of the MoU related to the Miri Kenyalang Smart City Lagoon Theme Park indicates that the project is moving forward.

Once ready, it will not only create massive job opportunities to locals in Miri, but also make Miri an enticing gateway for family holidays.

Just to note, a new water park is also being constructed in Serian Division, known as Danu Water Park.
