It’s ‘Kuching Jazz Festival’ from 2020 onwards
The Kuching Waterfront Jazz Festival will be renamed from the fourth year onwards to just the Kuching Jazz Festival.
The name change announcement was made by Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Sarawak, Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah during the closing ceremony of the 2019 event over the weekend which was held at the MBKS Community Hall in Padungan.
Karim also announced the change of the dates for the festival.
According to Karim, the Kuching Jazz Festival 2020 will be moved to 30th and 31st of October 2020, a month from the usual September end dates previously.
Karim said that the change of date was to avoid the haze which usually chokes Kuching during the month of September.
Despite the change in date, as well as the name change, the festival would revert back to its original venue next year.
The original venue of the festival is the Kuching Waterfront, but it had to be shifted this year after Air Pollution Index (API) in Kuching hit over 200 during the festival week.
The API shot high due to the haze condition which blanketed major parts of Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia.
It is believed that the jazz festival will therefore happen at the end of every October from next year onwards.
