International-standard ship terminal planned for Damai – ready by 2028

The Sarawak government has confirmed and announced plans for a new international-standard ship terminal at Damai Beach, marking a significant leap in the state’s maritime infrastructure.

The new facility is expected to be operational within two years, the facility will serve as a primary gateway for luxury international cruises.

According to Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, the construction is a vital component of the Santubong-Damai development master plan.

He noted that by enabling direct berthing for large vessels, the terminal aims to position Kuching as a premier destination on the global cruise circuit.

This Damai beach ship terminal development coincides with Sarawak’s efforts to secure UNESCO status for the Sarawak Delta Geopark, further enhancing the area’s appeal to high-spending international travelers and creating new commercial opportunities for the local community.

The development for the Damai peninsular is no secret as videos and images of the plans had previously been shared on national TV.

The plans include a several different precints which turn Damai into a massive eco-tourism hub which include facilities like cable cars, golf courses, hotels and a marina.
