Fudan University, Asia’s 9th ranked university to open campus in Miri with teaching hospital in plans
Fudan University, a premier institution in China, is set to commence operations this year (2025) at Kenyalang Smart City (KSC) in Miri, Sarawak, through its medical arm.
According to TopUniversities.com, the university is the 9th best ranked university overall in Asia, with it being the 3rd best in Mainland China.
In the world rankings, the university is the 39th best, while compared to Malaysian universities, it is placed 21 spots above Malaysia’s best university, University Malaya.
Fudan University Miri Campus
According to TVS news report, which quoted Teo Ah King, Chairman of Imasa Dinasti Sdn Bhd, this significant development is the result of a collaboration between the Sarawak government and various stakeholders.
The report further mentioned that the Sarawak government has expressed its commitment to partnering with different entities in the field of biodiversity with an official agreement between the Sarawak government, Imasa Dinasti, and Fudan University, along with associated research institutes, expected to be signed soon.
Professor Dong JingCheng, Director of the Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Department at Fudan University’s Clinical Medicine College, emphasized the potential of the Fudan University Miri Sarawak branch campus to train young professionals in traditional and integrated medicine, thus producing qualified doctors from Sarawak.
Additionally, this initiative aims to enhance medical research based on biodiversity.
He further elaborated that initially, the focus of Fudan University will be on establishing the institute and a museum first.
He further goes on to say that future plans and dreams is to create a Fudan University Sarawak Campus, a teaching hospital and more.
Professor Dong JingCheng also highlighted the suitability of Sarawak for conducting medical research, given its unique biodiversity assets.
