Former FourPoints Hotel to be new voco Hotel Kuching
The former Four Points Hotel building in Kuching, which was then taken over as Century Hotel, will soon be known as voco Hotel Kuching as IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) announces its confirmation that the hotel brand will open in Kuching in 2026.
The new hotel will see IHG Hotels & Resorts partner with Elica Equity Sdn Bhd to debut IHG’s premium brand, voco, in what will be its latest 321-room hotel.
IHG added that voco is IHG’s fastest-growing premium brand that already has 77 properties globally.
IHG in their statement said that voco Hotel Kuching will be IHG’s first hotel in Sarawak. The company also elaborated that the brand is making a return to Kuching after 16 years.
The brand’s last hotel in Kuching was Holiday Inn, which occupied the building which is now known as Grand Marghrita Hotel.
The building where voco Kuching will be located is considered prime location as it is just 5 minute from Kuching International Airport, and within 15 minutes to the main Kuching city centre.
IHG in the statement said that once opened, voco Kuching will also offer 2,400 square metres of meeting spaces, which includes a ballroom that will accommodate 1,300 people.
Kuching attracting premium hotel brands
It is interesting to note that Kuching is slowly becoming a magnet to premium hotel brands with hotel chains opting to open their premium hotel brands in the city.
It is also interesting to note that while Holiday Inn is considered a major brand in the hotel industry, voco is one of the few premium brands under IHG, which puts it is on par with brands like Hilton, Pullman, Citidines and Sheraton.
That said, with voco Kuching, the list of Kuching’s premium chain hotel line-up will expand from the current Hilton Kuching, Pullman Kuching, Citidines Uplands, and Sheraton Kuching.
