East Malaysia’s largest senior wellness centre to be at Wisma Elica in Kuching

Wisma Elica is the new name for the building which many locals call ‘Four Points Hotel’ at the moment.

The popular name, derived from its first tenant, which was Four Points Hotel Kuching by Sheraton, would see the whole building transformed into a hotel and East Malaysia’s largest senior wellness centre.

As previously announced, IHG Hotels & Resorts would make Wisma Elica their first ever voco hotel in Malaysia, bringing to life the dormant building which is located just five minutes away from the Kuching International Airport.

But that was not the whole story as just recently, property developer Elica Sdn Bhd announced that the building would also house the largest senior wellness centre in collaboration with My Care Concierge Sdn Bhd (Care Concierge).

In addition to that, the building would also have retail outlets such as a convenience store, a coffee shop, gift shop, commercial spaces, offices, specialty stores and a pharmacy.

Details on the wellness centre are limited, but The Borneo Post reports that the senior wellness centre is expected to open in the first quarter of next year.

It will be managed by Care Concierge which curently manages other similar facilities in West Malaysia.

The Senior Wellness Centre would be able to accomodate 125 residents, making it the biggest of such facility in East Malaysia currently.

The centre will have 92 rooms across independent living units (ILUs) and assisted living units (ALUs), a senior clubhouse/daycare facility, a rehabilitation centre, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) services and post-hospitalisation recovery programmes.

The Borneo Post also reports that the building’s new hotel will also house a 1,300-capacity grand ballroom and over 2,400 square metres of versatile event spaces.

This is in addition to the 321 luxurious rooms which are planned for the hotel. 80 per cent of Wisma Elica would be used up by voco Kuching Hotel.

In addition to that, the hotel also promises state-of-the-art fitness centre, a swimming pool, and vibrant dining options.

It is expected to open in 2026.

Kuching as a retirement hub

Kuching is fast becoming a favourite retirement hub by many locals and foreigners which are seeking a place with good healthcare facilities, good quality of living, with a slower pace of life.

The charm of Kuching (and Sarawak) generally improved more with the introduction of a revised Sarawak-Malaysia My Second Home (S-MM2H) recently.

This program is seen as being more favourable to the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) which is deemed to be stricter.

With the Sarawak government now embarking on more ambitious projects to improve connectivity to Kuching, Sarawak is likely poised to be a major tourism and retirement choice in the near future.
