Floating international bookstore Doulos Hope will serve Kuching from August 2nd with the ship scheduled to berth at the Kuching Port Authority from August 1st, 2024.
Borneo Post reported that the ship would open it’s doors to members of the public from August 2nd until August 28th.
Some 2,000 book titles are on board the ship with the bookfair open from tuesday to Sunday, 2PM to 9PM.
Last entry to the ship is at 8.30PM, with Monday declared a rest day for the bookfair.
Entry into the ship is charged at RM2 per person, but children under 12 and senior citizens over 65 will be allowed in for free.
Entry fees are payable by cash only, and tickets are needed for all entries even if they are eligible for free entry.
Last year, Doulos Hope was scheduled to visit Kuching but had to cancel their plans at the last minute. After Kuching, the ship is scheduled to visit Sandakan, Sabah.

Doulos hope continues the legacy of past ship, Doulos (1977-2010) and Logos Hope (since 2009).
The word ‘doulos’ is Greek means servant, hence the name of the ship being ‘servant of hope’.
Originally built in Germany in 1991, the vessel was formally handed over to GBA Ships on Wednesday 25th May 2022 and required some repurposing of spaces in order to meet our needs.
Doulos Hope was launched into service in May, 2023.
The ship is served by international crew and staff of volunteers from around 60 different countries who live and work on the ships, devoting one or more years of their lives to serving on board.
The ship people promote literacy and education, cross-cultural co-operation, and social awareness, and reflect God’s compassion for the world in the ports and countries they visit. Ship teams go into surrounding areas to provide aid and community care, partnering with local community groups to bring hope to people, whatever their circumstance, culture or background.
