Christmas parade dates announced across Sarawak, 40K expected in Miri parade

Annual Christmas parade dates has been announced across major cities in Sarawak with Christmas being one of the most celebrated events in Sarawak.

In Kuching, the annual Kuching Christmas parade is will be on 7 December 2024 at 6 to 9PM.

A post from the Roman Catholic Church buletin board said that the parade is organised by the Methodist Church SCAC this year, with the parade starting at the MBKS Jubilee Ground, going along the Kuching Waterfront, before ending back at MBKS Jubilee Ground. The theme of the parade is “Peace be with you”.

Nearby, the Kota Sentosa Christmas Parade for 2024 will be held on December 1st.

According to DayakDaily, the parade will take place at Dewan Perniagaan Batu 7 with the theme ‘Jesus My Redeemer’. The parade expects about 1,000 people and will pass though Public Bank Batu 7, the Batu 7 Market, Chan Furniture before looping back to the hall. The parade in Kota Sentosa is organized by Sarawak Evangelical Christian Association (SECA).

The Christmas parade in Serian is scheduled on 8 December 2024 with those participating urged to gather at 5PM at the Serian Community Park.

A video by St Halen’s Church Serian showed that the Serian Christmas parade is themed ‘Jesus, Light of the World’ will also have a special speaker in The Right Revd Datuk Danald Jute (President of ACS).

It is understood that eight churches are participating in this parade.

Betong will also have their own Betong Christmas parade this year, starting at the Betong Sports Complex. According to a post by PPP BEM Daerah Sri Aman.

According to the shared video, the parade will also feature Christmas carols and decorated floats.

In the north of Sarawak, the Miri Christmas Parade this year is scheduled on December 7, 2024. According to Borneo Post, some 40,000 are expected to the parade which will kick off at 5PM.

The parade is organized by the Miri City Council with this 15th edition themed ‘Jesus Christ the Life and the Light of All People’.

The parade route begins at the Miri City Fan, Jalan Sylvia, Jalan Brooke, Jalan Kingsway, Jalan Puchong, Jalan Padang, Jalan Melayu, Jalan Mohkoda Gampar, Jalan Cina, Jalan Bendahara, Jalan North Yu Seng, Jalan South Yu Seng, Jalan Merpati, Jalan Kipas, before heading back to Miri City Fan.

Christmas parades are a norm in Sarawak, with the joyous event used to spread love and unity during the season of Christmas.

Aside from singing Christmas carols, the parades also feature marching bands, and decorated floats.
