Trombol to be site for new 250-acre beachfront i-CATS University College new campus

The new i-CATS University College campus is set to be established on a substantial 250-acre coastal site in Trombol, Matang, approximately 40 kilometres from Kuching city centre.

The beachfront location is intended to house what is envisioned to be the most advanced technology university campus in the region.

It is understood that the new campus is to prepare the university for the upcoming initiative to offer free tertiary education to Sarawakian students starting in 2026.

The new campus is expected to transform i-CATS into a leading technical university and a vital catalyst for Sarawak’s development.

The new i-CATS University College campus is estimated to cost of RM300 million, with the Sarawak government footing the bill. This is possible as the university college is fully owned by the Sarawak government.

Constuction of the new campus is scheduled to start in February 2026, with the goal of completion within four years.

This means the new beach front i-CATS University College campus is estimated to be operational around 2030.

The new facility is being designed to accommodate between 2,500 and 3,000 students. Existing campuses at Jalan Stampin Timur, Tropic City and Lundu, are expected to be fully utilised while the new campus is being constucted.

It is noted that emporary or satellite locations like Lundu will be used for Aerospace Engineering and Tropics City for non-STEM faculties for now.

Once completed, the new i-CATS University College main campus will be a state-of-the-art facility equipped with modern learning technology and advanced laboratories. It will also include the newly approved Faculty of Aerospace Engineering and the planned Faculty of Energy Transition.
