STF now offers glamping option for their Gawai Open House

The upcoming Sarawak Tourism Federation (STF) Gawai Open House on June 7th, 2025 will feature new attractions, notably glamping accommodations, to enhance the visitor experience. This time around, the open house will be held for the very first time at Rumah Veriland in Betong.

Gawai Dayak is a major cultural celebration in Sarawak particularly among the Dayaks.

This added feature comes as the event expands its long house accomodation packages around Betong and Sri Aman for those interested to immerse themselves in the rural setting of the event, blending modern amenities with the area’s natural charm. These accomodations and tour packages come at different rates and stay lengths, but is expected to greatly improve visitor’s experience due to it being paired with a wide range of planned programs.

STF’s president, Audry Wan Ullok, emphasized that the introduction of glamping seeks to provide a modern twist to rural tourism while further highlighting Borneo’s rich indigenous heritage.

The highlight of the event is of course the one day STF Gawai Open House 2025 which is happening at Rumah Veriland. This event includes a Gawai morning parade, before the STF Gawai Open House 2025 begins from 5PM onwards at Rumah Veriland.

Entrance to the open house is entirely free and open to the public.

During the STF Gawai Open House visitors can enjoy traditional music and dance performances, cultural exhibitions, storytelling as well as hands-on workshops on Iban customs.

In addition, visitors can also enjoy vibrant dances, traditional games, local cuisine, and handicraft exhibitions, all centered around authenticity and community spirit.

There would also be a special Gawai-Kaamatan Concert which is a unique collaboration between the Dayak and Kadazan-Dusun communities.

This special Gawai-Kaamatan Concert celebrates the unity of Dayak and Kadazan-Dusun cultures, reflecting the federation’s focus on promoting rural tourism with a contemporary approach and showcasing the diverse indigenous traditions of Borneo.
