SK Kujang Mawang Centralised School, Tebedu now completed and handed over to KPM

The construction of the new Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kujang Mawang which is located in the Tebedu District of the Serian Division has been conpleted with the school’s new campus now handed over to the Ministry of Education (KPM) on October 6, 2025.

The core motivation for building SK Kujang Mawang was to address the systemic disadvantages faced by ‘Sekolah Kurang Murid’ (SKM), or low-enrolment schools.

The project’s full title, Cadangan Pembangunan Semula Sekolah Daif di bawah Peruntukan RM1 Bilion (Fasa 3), highlights its objective of the school, which is to replace existing dilapidated structures.

By consolidating several low-enrolment schools into this single facility, the government aimed to ensure sufficient resource allocation, as funding is often tied to student population, thereby guaranteeing a higher quality of education.

Cost and Allocation

The massive undertaking moved forward with a confirmed contract cost of RM23 million.

This funding came from the allocation for rebuilding and upgrading poor and dilapidated schools in Sarawak under the 11th Malaysia Plan (RMK11).

The investment was designed not just for reconstruction, but for sustainable infrastructure that would close the financial and structural hurdles previously faced by individual small, remote schools.

Construction officially commenced with the contract implementation period on March 9, 2023.

The school was targetted for completion in early 2025.

During the handover, Puan Polia Anak Nisoy, Headmistress of SK Kujang Mawang, was also present, confirming the school’s readiness for full operation.

Facilities of SK Kujang Mawang

The school campus comprises of an administrative block, classroom block, pre-school block and hostel blocks.

The three-storey administrative block and a large four-storey classroom block are the back-bone to the school with a dedicated pre-school block tailored for early childhood education.

The school campus also includes a dining hall, three barrack blocks containing six units of living quarters, an elevated water tank and a dedicated guard post.

Photos below were lifted from JKR Sarawak and they show the school campus from almost every angle.

Interestingly, the school does not have any sporting facilities noted, although there seems to be an open space behind the school which could be developed into a football field in the future.

With the successful completion and handover of this project, the redevelopment of SK Kujang Mawang is expected to significantly elevated the standard of educational facilities in the Tebedu area.
