Sarawak Scouts new HQ to have camping site in the city

The Malaysian Scouts Association Sarawak Branch is set to construct a brand-new headquarters (HQ) in Batu Lintang, and it’s not just going to be an office building.

According to Sarawak Scout Council Vice President Jumaat Ibrahim, this upcoming landmark will feature something truly unique: a campsite right in the heart of the city!

This innovative addition promises to bring the spirit of outdoor adventure and valuable scouting experiences to a conveniently accessible urban location.

If materilized, this city campsite will provide a fantastic opportunity for young scouts (and perhaps even the wider community) to learn essential outdoor skills, foster teamwork, and enjoy the camaraderie of camping without having to travel far from home.

Jumaat also hinted that the Sarawak Scouts headquarters itself is envisioned as an inspiring space, designed to promote harmonious living in Sarawak’s diverse society, encourage independence, and support healthy lifestyles among the youth.

Construction on the new Sarawak Scouts HQ is slated to begin within the next year, pending state government approval, anticipation is building for this exciting project.

While details about the design remain a closely guarded secret, Jumaat hinted at a truly remarkable architecture that will set it apart from other scout headquarters nationwide.

He also expressed confidence that this new Sarawak Scouts HQ, complete with its unique urban camping site, could very well become a prominent scouting landmark in Malaysia.

This development comes after the previous headquarters was unfortunately damaged by fire in February 2024, making this new project an even more significant step forward for the approximately 45,000 registered and unregistered scout members in Sarawak.
